Historical background
The main activities currently run by Gastaldi International were started in 1949 when shipping agents Gastaldi & C, the oldest company within the group founded in 1860, were appointed Lloyd’s Agents at Naples. The appointment of Lloyd’s Agents at Genoa followed in 1962. As result of the business increase, in 1980 the Management of Gastaldi & C decided to set up Gastaldi International as an independent limited company of Marine Surveyors and Adjusters.
Current position
Gastaldi International is a market leader in Italy as Third Party Administrator (TPA) acting on behalf of foreign marine insurance and reinsurance companies in connection with the management of claims and advice on loss prevention. The main risks concerned are in respect of cargo, commercial ships, pleasure vessels and small crafts, third and second party liability of carriers, terminals and other logistic service providers.
In the non-marine area Gastaldi International provide engineering and paralegal advice to product liability insurers and their assureds, particularly to those trading in the automotive field and remarkably to several primary Japanese producers of motorvehicles, motorcycles, tyres and safety helmets. The Company is not only acting as Lloyd’s Agent at the two key places of Genoa (including the North-West of Italy and Sardinia) and Naples but is also acting as Correspondents of The American Institute of Marine Underwriters (A.I.M.U.) for North-Central Italy and Commissaire d’Avaries as well as Expert Plaisance for the Comité d’Etudes et de Services des Assureurs Maritimes et Transports de France (C.E.S.A.M.) in Milan, Genoa and Naples.
Gastaldi International are also retained as survey agent by a number of worlwide claim managing agents such as W.K. Webster & Co, CEEMIS and Brasil Salvage
Current position
With Head Office at Genoa and own staffed Branch Offices at Milan, Rome and Naples plus the back-up of a selected network of consulting surveyors, forensic experts and lawyers located at each principal port and place, the Company is in a position to attend its Principals’ requirements wherever arising in Italy. The sinergy with other Lloyd’s Agents and C.E.S.A.M. Average Agents enables Gastaldi International to extend its range of action beyond the Italian territory.
Gastaldi International are associated to Gastaldi Holding that have other interests in shipping, logistics, marine terminal operation, travel and real estate.
